The Myanmar embassy (BURMA) has granted visas for Merlin's Response Team - making them one of only two aid agencies to have been given emergency access so far.
As a result, MERLIN's emergency teams have landed in Yangon to support Merlin's Myanmar team, who have been working tirelessly since the cyclone struck on Saturday.
They are now better placed than ever to ramp up our medical aid effort.
MERLIN also have a second team heading out soon, including Dr Sean Keogh, an A&E surgeon specialising in trauma. Sean led Merlin missions during the Bam earthquake, the tsunami and the Pakistan earthquake. His skills will be invaluable.
Merlin is the only specialist UK agency which responds worldwide with vital health care and medical relief for vulnerable people caught up in natural disasters, conflict, disease and health system collapse.
