Medtronic Foundation operate a number of programs. With Patient Link grants, Medtronic partner with national and international patient organizations that educate, support and advocate on behalf of patients and their families to improve the lives of people with chronic diseases. Patient Link grants are made to organizations in the U.S., Canada and Europe. CommunityLink grants are made to areas were Medtronic have a business presence, namely Toronto, Canada; Netherlands: Limburg (Heerlen/Maastricht) and Arnhem areas; Ireland: Galway and surrounding areas; Switzerland: Lac Leman and surrounding areas; Japan: greater Toyko area. Funding priorities for this program are Health, Education, Human Services, and Arts/Civic/Culture. Strengthening Health System grants focus on non-communicable diseases (NCDs), including cardiovascular disease, diabetes, cancer and chronic respiratory disease, in specific low-income countries - Brazil, Central/Eastern Europe, China, India, Russia, South Africa.

Providing direct aid and assistance to vulnerable children

The Ross Foundation has compassion for all children, regardless of their circumstances. However, the Ross Foundation is most concerned with a young child who is vulnerable through no fault of his or her own. The Ross Foundation provides direct aid and assistance to vulnerable children, including those who are ill, orphaned, disabled, injured, disfigured, abused and malnourished or have limited access to education. They are looking for small grassroots projects that they can fully fund or nearly fully fund with the small grants that they make. The Foundation provides financial assistance to organizations that are qualified under the laws of the United States as a charitable organization for projects that directly benefit vulnerable children. They do not fund day-to-day operations, individuals, conferences, day care, or public education. TED Opens Application Process for Global Fellows Program

TED, a nonprofit organization devoted to "Ideas Worth Spreading," has announced it is opening submissions for the next round of TEDGlobal Fellows. The fellows program selects "world-changing" innovators from around the globe, and brings them to the TED stage to raise international awareness for their work. The next round of fellows will participate in the TEDGlobal 2011 conference in Edinburgh, Scotland.
The TEDGlobal 2011 Fellows program seeks candidates who demonstrate remarkable achievement in their field of endeavor, focusing on individuals from five regions: Asia/Pacific, Africa, the Caribbean, Latin America, and the Middle East. The program focuses on candidates from 21 to 40 years of age, though anyone over the age of 18 is eligible.
Previous fellows have come from fifty-eight countries, six continents, and diverse fields including technology, entertainment, design, science, humanities, the arts, entrepreneurship, and the NGO world.
As part of the fellowship, TEDGlobal Fellows receive conference admission, round-trip transportation, and room and board for TEDGlobal 2011, July 11-15, 2011, in Edinburgh, Scotland. Fellows participate in a two-day pre-conference where they can present a short talk about their work that may be considered for inclusion on the TED.com Web site. Other benefits include skill-building courses taught by world experts, social opportunities, and world-class coaching and mentoring.

Funding medical research pertaining to the pathophysiology, diagnosis and treatment of hypertensive disorders of pregnancy

The Preeclampsia Foundation has supported close to a half a million dollars worth of research since its founding in 2000. Two types of grants are available: The Preeclampsia Vision Grant program funds medical research pertaining to the
pathophysiology, diagnosis and treatment of hypertensive disorders of pregnancy that might otherwise not be pursued due to lack of funding. All novel, well-considered research topics are encouraged. International applicants are welcome, though applications must be submitted in English. Up to two $25,000 grants will be awarded in 2011. New for this year is the announcement of grant funding for proposals on the application of health services research to the field of preeclampsia. The focus is on health delivery strategies such as enhancement of health care distribution, patient education, patient safety, and
guideline development and/or utilization. All such studies may include a focus on health care disparities as well. Up to one such $25,000 grant will be awarded in 2011.

Focusing on initiatives which promote the emergence of sustainable development

Ensemble Innovation Competition. This competition is open to NGOs and all other non-profit organizations, as well as anyone working in developing countries. Various prizes are available. It is up to you to verify if your project falls within these two focus areas: Sustainable Development and Conservation & Biodiversity. The involvement of women is also a priority focus for the Foundation and has its own prize. The Prize 'Ensemble Feminine' focuses most particularly on initiatives which promote the emergence of sustainable development by giving women the means of getting involved in every stage of a project. Action for World Solidarity is based in Berlin, Germany and since 1957, they have supported small, self- initiated groups in India, Africa and Brazil, which try to strengthen and improve the situation of women, strive for environmental protection, or attempt to achieve social and cultural human rights. Action for World Solidarity promotes projects which have already begun working, proven their effectiveness and need further financial assistance in order to continue functioning. Currently the countries supported are India, Brazil, Senegal, Burkina Faso, West Sahara and Zimbabwe. At the moment, they do not accept requests of financial support from any other countries.

Skoll Foundation Accepting Applications for the Skoll Awards for Social Entrepreneurship

The Skoll Foundation is accepting applications for its 2012 social entrepreneurship awards. The annual awards provide unrestricted funding to further extend the reach of social entrepreneurs who have achieved significant impact in the areas of tolerance and human rights, health, environmental sustainability, peace and security, and economic and social equity.
The Skoll Award includes a core support grant to the winner's organization to be paid over three years and a non-cash award to the social entrepreneur that will be presented at the Skoll World Forum on Social Entrepreneurship (March 2012 in Oxford, England). The foundation anticipates making fewer than ten awards each year.
To be considered for the award, social entrepreneurs must have a tested and proven social innovation that addresses an issue of critical importance and is positioned for large-scale impact.

In 2011, Amphibian Ark will be pleased to announce the third annual call for proposals for its Seed Grant program. This $5,000 competitive grant is designed to fund small start-up rescue projects that are in need of seed money in order to build successful long-term programs that attract larger funding. Successful proposals will reflect AArk values – please pay careful attention to the grant guidelines, including: focusing on species whose threats cannot be mitigated in nature in time to prevent their extinction and who therefore require ex situ intervention to persist; working with species within their native range country involving range-country biologists; adhering to recommended biosecurity standards for ex situ programs; linking ex situ programs to in situ conservation and involving partnerships to maximize the likelihood of the program’s long-term sustainability.
