Research Services > Prospect Research

What is Prospect Research?

In broad terms, Prospect Research is the gathering and analysing of individual biographical, financial, company, foundation and other philanthropic information with the purpose of identifying new major gift prospects or of further qualifying existing major gift donors.

Many organizations have databases containing the names and basic details of supporters and donors. In many instances this valuable resource is used only in a very basic way e.g. for mailings, etc. Using Prospect Research enables these resources to be used to their full potential.

In its simplest form, Prospect Research can be used to validate the basic details of your supporters such as their addresses, which then enables you to eliminate wastage when sending out mailings. In its more complex form it can provide significant details on individuals, enabling judgements to be made on their potential as major donors to your organisation or whether they could provide leverage through their contacts and affiliations to other sources of major funding.

Even if you don’t have existing lists of supporters and alumni, Prospect Research can help by providing you with lists of individuals and companies with a demonstrated interest in your charity’s mission.

Prices vary dependent upon the scope of the project, its geographical area and the volume of data to be processed. We are able to offer our services over three main geographical areas – the United Kingdom, the United States, and Europe. Below are some examples of the services we can offer. If you wish to pursue a particular project further, then please click on the link below and we will be happy to discuss your specific requirements.

Full Profile: Includes (where found): address, spouse/family information, education and career history, company information, personal/family philanthropy, corporate, civic, social and charitable board memberships, securities, option holdings and recent sales, real estate, salary, bonus and other tangible assets, contacts and affiliations.

Snapshot Reports: A summary of demographic, biographical and wealth/asset information.

Short Format Reports: A one-page sheet that lists indicators of wealth and biographical/family information. This is useful for qualifying prospects and for selecting individuals for further research.

Prospecting: By project, initiative or campaign. We identify potential board members, volunteers, community allies and co-sponsors as well as corporate, foundation and individual donors.

Data Mining / Donor Modelling: Using information within an organization's existing membership or alumni database, we identify prospects using past donations, demographics, relationships and other information.

Database Screening Assistance: We help identify previously undiscovered sources of wealth in alumni, parent or member populations and we assist clients in updating addresses in their database.

NOTE: The above are just some of the services we can offer but please note that some of them may not be available for certain geographical areas.
