INEXPENSIVE NEW FUNDING SOURCES
The task of finding new, inexpensive sources of funding has never been more important. For many charitable organizations American Foundations represent a completely untapped source of potential funding and despite the financial climate there are still major opportunities available. Chapel & York’s Programs provide you with an extremely inexpensive means of finding these new sources without compromising quality and accuracy.
SEARCH
The SEARCH Program provides you with a list of up to 250 Foundations that show some potential for being supporters of your organization.
Method
- Using the (Client Information Form), you provide us with information about your organization and projects;
- From this information we select a number of keywords for use with our database. How many keywords will depend on your organization, normally we would expect to use 20-30 plus two or more geographical areas (e.g. England & United Kingdom or Uganda and Sub-Saharan Africa);
- Using these keywords and geographical areas, we then search our database. The results are combined and then prioritized on the basis of the number of occasions the name of a particular foundation occurs e.g. if we do 50 searches and a particular foundation occurs on 35 occasions, that would give it a rating of 35 out of 50 or 70%.
- You receive a report (Sample) listing the prioritized foundations who from our searches show they have some potential to be funders of your organization. The report includes full contact details for each foundation (including websites) where available from our database. The nature of our searches is such that many of the listed foundations will be eliminated once more detailed research is carried out. For instance, if we use a combination of ‘Children’ and ‘Uganda’, our search will find all those foundations that are in some way interested in ‘Children’ and in ‘Uganda’, however, on detailed inspection, it may be found that the foundation has no interest in ‘Children’ in Uganda, their interest in ‘Children’ may be restricted to another geographical area and in Uganda they have other interests.
- Once you have received our report, you have the choice of carrying out your own detailed research to establish a foundation’s true potential, or you can commission us to do this work for you under our SEARCH PLUS program (see below). Either way, experience shows that you should find 8-10 foundations that match your requirements and are suitable for an application.

GRANT SEARCH
Simple in concept but of great benefit when seeking funding, this program provides you with a list of American Foundations that have funded organizations working in the same field as you.
Method
- Using the (Client Information Form), you provide us with a list of up to 10 national/international organizations who are working in the same field as yourself;
- We enter these names into our database and find which American Foundations have funded them during the past seven years;
- You receive a report (Sample) for each organization. For each foundation found we will indicate the total value of the grants made and the number of grants. It will also contain foundation contact details and website information where available;
- Once you have received our report you have the choice of carrying out the detailed research to establish a foundations’ true potential, or you can commission us to do this work for you using our SEARCH PLUS program (see below).
Note: GRANT SEARCH can be taken in combination with the SEARCH program or independently.
Cost: £75.00 + VAT

Method
- Using the (Client Information Form), you provide us with information on your organization and projects and up to 10 national/international organizations working in the same field as you;
- We carry out the SEARCH & GRANT SEARCH programs (see above);
- We furnish you with the reports associated with the SEARCH & GRANT SEARCH programs (see above);
- From these reports, you select the foundations on which detailed research is required (Minimum 20). We suggest that you base your selection on the prioritized report provided under the SEARCH program plus any additional foundations from the GRANT SEARCH program you think appropriate. If required we can advise you on this.
- We carry out the detailed research. This involves reviewing the website; contacting the foundation for additional information if necessary, and carrying out general searches for any other relevant information.
- We prioritize our results on three levels:
A – Those foundations which are exactly compatible with your organization;
B – Those foundations that are very closely compatible to you, but although not exactly compatible, we consider worthy of further action;
C –Those foundations that are exactly compatible and in our opinion warrant further action but either do not accept unsolicited proposals or state that they only give to pre-selected organizations.
- These results are presented to your in the form of a report (Sample) . The report is prioritized by grade and includes any deadlines and other relevant information, including, where appropriate, printed guidelines and application procedures.
- If you wish, using our results you can commission us to write your applications. Details of this service are given below.
